Pekingese dog information

According to most pekingese dog information, your "peke" is
considered a toy dog. This means that it will weigh roughly 14 pounds.
If you have a special breed whose adult weight is 6 pounds or less,
it is usually referred to as a ?Sleeve? pekingese, and between 6 and
8 pounds, it is considered a Mini Peke. Whichever kind of pekingese
you have, you can be sure that it considers itself a very special
individual. They have definite personalities that shows in their very
proud and regal stance. So, regardless of size, be prepared to treat
your peke like a special member of your family.

Speaking of family, most pekingese dog information agrees that pekes
can be wonderful with children. And they can be trusted with the
younger members of your household if proper training is given to both
child and dog. The sensitive eyes of pekingese require that sharp
objects coming their way, like the sudden finger reaches of children,
be minimised. So the very youngest of children must be taught very
early to pet very gently and to be careful of their friend's eyes.

The very name Pekingese gives a clue to its heritage: China. Pekingese
dog information maintains that this dog was the exclusive favorite
of the Chinese Imperial Court in the royal city of Peking. In earlier
days, Chinese venerated this breed because Pekingese were
thought to be able to chase away evil spirits. They bowed down to
it, and commoners were killed if found stealing one! When an emperor
died, his royal pekes were sacrificed with him to guard him in the afterlife.

Pekingese do make very good watch dogs, voicing their awareness
of strangers in a very vociferous way. You might not think of them
as particularly good guard dogs because of their size, but pekingese
dog information will tell you that although they may not attack an
unfriendly and unwanted visitor like a guard dog breed, you will
certainly be given plenty of warning that an intruder is at hand!

The average life span of a pekingese is about 12 years. This will,
of course, vary with the individual dog and its treatment. Given a
good exercise program and proper diet, pekingese dog information
assures that this life span can be lengthened. Just as in humans, life
span is a matter of genetics and environment. If you have procured
your peke from a known line, you assume there is a valid history
behind its pedigree. But if you have gotten your dog from the city
dog pound, you are in the dark as to its familial background and
can only improve its chances for a long and healthy life from that
point on by proper care.

One tip for training your peke to enjoy "exercise" early on is to train
it to a leash and go for walks daily. If you don't start them early to
leash, you'll fail in their later years when their independent spirit will
just say no to exercise. Pekingese dog information assures that a
well-exercised peke will be a far healthier peke.
