How to Clean 14k Gold Animal Jewelry
If you love your animals, you probably want to wear jewelry
that reminds you of them and gives you a chance to tell
others about them, and you likely will want to buy some of
the adorable jewelry that is made just for your pet to wear
too. There are many wonderful jewelry pieces you can find
that will depict your horse, dog, cat, bird or other pet,
from bracelets to earrings to necklaces to the most popular
charms for your charm bracelet or your pet's accessories.
Once you have chosen your favorite 14K gold animal jewelry,
of course you want to keep it clean and looking its best. To
clean any gold jewelry without damaging it, you need to be
very careful to use only tools or wipes that will not
scratch the surface of the metal. With 14K gold animal
jewelry you will want to be even more careful to be sure to
use cleaners that are natural and can't harm your pet.
There are many ways to clean solid 14k gold jewelry without
damaging the piece. But gold-plate and when there are
precious and semi-precious gems mixed in with the 14k gold
animal jewelry require extra care and special treatment. In
the case of the different particular gems you will need to
learn how to clean the gold and the gems so that your
cleaning process doesn't damage the gems. Gold plate must be
cleaned gently so as not to wear off any of the gold.
But before you begin washing, cleaning or anything else with
your 14k gold animal jewelry you should check the piece over
for loose catches, loops or prongs so that you do not lose a
part of the jewelry during the cleaning or wearing process,
and so that your animals can't be injured by anything when
they wear their own jewelry.
It has been suggested that the best way to clean 14k gold
jewelry is to steam it. (This method is only for animal
jewelry that has no fragile gemstones set into it.) You can
do this yourself with a vegetable steamer. Just boil some
water in a pot and put the gold jewelry into the vegetable
steamer and set it over the boiling water for twenty
minutes.
If there are any scratches from your pet on the gold of the
jewelry they will have to be buffed out. You can take the
piece to any jewelry store and they will do it for you, most
often for free. Or you can do it yourself with a buffing
cloth and a little time and elbow grease.
If the piece has any sensitive stones like pearl, emerald,
opal, etcetera, do not steam the piece. Just use some water
and a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove any dirt. Then buff
the piece with your buffing cloth. Be sure not to buff the
gems, it might scratch them.
If your 14K Gold animal jewelry has diamonds, rubies or
sapphire gems set into it, it is fine to steam them along
with the gold and then buff the gold. These stones are hard
and will not become damaged from the steam. The beauty of
gold can be seen for miles around and is particular flashy
on your pet. But to keep it in good condition you should
follow the steps above.
