Toy, Standard & Miniature Poodles Calendars
The word Poodle comes from a German word pfudel which
literally means to puddle or splash. Most likely this
was given to the Poodle because in it's early days, the
Poodle was a hunting dog that was a very good swimmer
going after game in lakes and ponds.
When in the late 1800's the Poodle breed started to be
introduced to the show ring, the serious effort of
attempting to breed smaller Poodles started. Thus
the Miniature Poodle and Toy Poodle breeds were born.
The AKC does recognize Poodles in the non sporting group
and Toy Poodles in the Toy Group, but does not list
Miniature Poodles.
