Poisonous to Cats

What Plants are considered Poisonous to my Cat?

Here's a list of wild plants and houseplants that are poisonous
to your cat.

Please make sure your cat cannot be around any of these plants.

What plants can your cat enjoy nibbling on unabashedly? You can assume that anything with square stems and opposite leaves is OK.

The mint family is a good example, including most varieties of catnip and Swedish Ivy.

Lovely though they are, some plants can be deadly enemies to your cat. If you must have any of these plants in your home, keep them safely out of reach.

What to do if your Cat Eats a Poisonous Plant

Call the veterinarian immediately and follow instructions.

If you suspect that your cat has eaten a poisonous plant, you may need to induce vomiting. To induce vomiting in your cat, you can do one of three things:

  • Give it one teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide every ten minutes for 30 minutes.

  • Or, one-fourth of a teaspoon of salt placed at the back of the tongue.

  • Or, Syrup of Ipecac (one teaspoon per ten pounds of body weight).

DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING:
IF your cat has swallowed an acid, alkali, solvent, heavy duty cleaner, petroleum product, tranquilizers, or a sharp object, is severely depressed or comatose, or swallowed the substance more than two hours ago.

Alfred Says:

One of the most common pet emergencies is from pets being poisoned by common household chemicals.

This can be avoided easily by making sure you put bottles and containers away in a safe and secure place.

Basically take the same precautions you would with a small child.

But also many household cleaning products contain toxins that can harm the pet's even after using them.

We urge you to take a look at some natural alternatives to harsh conventional cleaning products.
