Suet is one of the most popular & tasty foods that wild birds love.
Suet is found in beef, sheep and other animals. It is the
solid white fat found around the kidneys and loins.

Why is Suet used for Bird Feeding?

Suet is the best food to attract woodpeckers, and among the
other birds fond of suet are wrens, chickadees, nuthatches,
kinglets, thrashers, creepers, cardinals, and starlings.

Mixtures of suet and peanut butter may attract woodpeckers,
goldfinches, juncos, cardinals, thrushes, jays,
bluebirds, and wrens.

Suet is high in protein, making it especially advantageous
during cold winter months.

Suet can be fed all year if you use the commercially prepared
suet cakes found where bird feeding supplies are sold.

This suet is rendered, meaning that it has been melted and
re-hardened, and it stays solid even in warm weather.

A Quality Suet Feeder

Tips on Feeding Suet

During the summer, place suet feeder in the shade.

Suet that is not rendered may be used for birds, but it spoils
much quicker than suet that is rendered.

Remove or replace suet when it shows any sign of becoming
rancid.

Use a good feeder specially designed to feed suet,
if you don't, starlings will eat all the suet and drive other
birds away.
