  Great Speckled Bird
  Roy Acuff

What a beautiful thought I am thinking,
  Concerning a great speckled bird.
  Remember her name is recorded,
On the pages of God's Holy Word.

All the other birds are flocking 'round her
And she is despised by the squad
But the great speckled bird in the Bible
Is one with the great church of God.

All the other churches are against her
They envy her glory and fame
They hate her because she is chosen
And has not denied Jesus' name.

  Desiring to lower her standard
They watch every move that she makes
They long to find fault with her teachings
But really they find no mistake.

She is spreading her wings for a journey
She's going to leave by and by
When the trumpet shall sound in the morning
She'll rise and go up in the sky.

In the presence of all her despisers
With a song never uttered before
She will rise and be gone in a moment
Till the great tribulation is o'er.

I am glad I have learned of her meekness
I am proud that my name is on her book
For I want to be one never fearing
The face of my Savior to look.

When He cometh descending from heaven
On the cloud that He writes in His Word
I'll be joyfully carried to meet Him
On the wings of that great speckled bird.

  Birds
  Music by Elton John
  Lyrics by Bernie Taupin

  There's some things I don't have now,
Some things I don't talk about,
These things are between myself and I,
In my thick skull the joker hides.

There's consequences I'm scared to taste
Cold hard truths I can't face
These days are different than the past
Reflections change in the looking glass

And everywhere I look there's something to learn
A sliver of truth from every bridge we burn
A hatful of quarters and a song
Don't answer the question of where we belong

  How come birds
Don't fall from the sky when they die?
  How come birds
Always look for a quiet place to hide
  These words
Can't explain what I feel inside?
Like birds I need a quiet place to hide

  These independent moves I make
This confidence I try to fake
You can hear the beating of my heart
But not a feather falling in the dark

And everything I hear never makes any sense
Another old prophet perched on the fence
A cupful of pencils and a self help guru
Don't answer the question of what I am to you

  Three Little Birds
  Bob Marley

  Don't worry about a thing
'Cause ev'ry little thing gonna be alright
Singin', "Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause ev'ry little thing gonna be alright."

  Rise up this morning,
  Smiled with the rising sun
Three little birds pitch by my doorstep
Singin' sweet songs of melodies pure and true
Sayin', "This is my message to you-u-u."
  Singin'...
  (Repeat)

  "Don't worry about a thing,
'Cause ev'ry little thing gonna be al-right."
  (4 times)

Lyrics to Turkey in the Straw

As I was a-gwine down the road,
With a tired team and a heavy load,
I crack'd my whip and the leader sprung,
I says day-day to the wagon tongue.
Turkey in the straw, turkey in the hay,
Roll 'em up and twist 'em up a high tuckahaw
And twist 'em up a tune called Turkey in the Straw.

Went out to milk, and I didn't know how,
I milked the goat instead of the cow.
A monkey sittin' on a pile of straw,
  A-winkin' at his mother-in-law.
Turkey in the straw, turkey in the hay,
Roll 'em up and twist 'em up a high tuckahaw
And twist 'em up a tune called Turkey in the Straw.

Met Mr. Catfish comin' down stream.
Says Mr. Catfish, "What does you mean?"
Caught Mr. Catfish by the snout,
And turned Mr. Catfish wrong side out.
Turkey in the straw, turkey in the hay,
Roll 'em up and twist 'em up a high tuckahaw
And twist 'em up a tune called Turkey in the Straw.

Came to a river and I couldn't get across,
  Paid five dollars for a blind old hoss;
Wouldn't go ahead, nor he wouldn't stand still,
So he went up and down like an old saw mill.
Turkey in the straw, turkey in the hay,
Roll 'em up and twist 'em up a high tuckahaw
And twist 'em up a tune called Turkey in the Straw.

As I came down the new cut road,
Met Mr. Bullfrog, met Miss Toad
And every time Miss Toad would sing,
Old Bullfrog cut a pigeon wing.
Turkey in the straw, turkey in the hay,
Roll 'em up and twist 'em up a high tuckahaw
And twist 'em up a tune called Turkey in the Straw.

Oh I jumped in the seat and I gave a little yell
The horses ran away, broke the wagon all to hell
Sugar in the gourd and honey in the horn
I never been so happy since the day I was born.
Turkey in the straw, turkey in the hay,
Roll 'em up and twist 'em up a high tuckahaw
And twist 'em up a tune called Turkey in the Straw.

And, here's another rendition of that song from World War 2.
Here is the info from the record label:

It is a Bluebird label, "1942 Turkey in the Straw",
  Carson Robison with Orchestra.

Number on the label is B-11460-A, around the label it
says, RCA manufacturing co., inc. Camden, N.J. U.S.A

Oh, Adolph Hitler grabbed a tail.
He hung right on with a tooth and nail.
Then he saw what he had and began to swear.
On that tail was a Russian bear.

The old bear growled and started in to shake,
Adolph knew he'd made a big mistake.
So he tried to hang on and he tried to let go,
Now they do a new dance called "Hitler in the Snow."

Well I saw Mussoline sitting on a log,
All puffed up like a great big frog.
So I went around back and stuck him with a wire,
He just went poof like an old flat tire.

I took his hide and I hung it on a tree,
The tree said hey don't do that to me!
So I took it on home to my mother-in-law,
And she threw it out with the turkey in the straw.

A monkey and a baboon were sitting on a rail
Feeling mighty sad and looking kinda pale
A little yellow rat came sneaking around the tree,
The monkey said, "Look there's the guy we need."

The rat came up and they all begin to grin,
Along came a fellow with whiskers on his chin.
He kicked that rail and broke their back,
And that was the last of the Three Power Pack.

  The Little Turtle Dove

O can't you see yon little turtle dove
  Sitting under the mulberry tree?
See how that she doth mourn for her true love:
And I shall mourn for thee, my dear,
And I shall mourn for thee.

O fare thee well, my little turtle dove,
  And fare thee well for a-while;
But though I go I'll surely come again,
If I go ten thousand mile, my dear,
If I go ten thousand mile.

Ten thousand mile is very far away,
For you to return to me,
You leave me here to lament, and well-a-day!
My tears you will not see, my love,
My tears you will not see.

The crow that's black, my little turtle dove,
  Shall change its colour white;
Before I'm false to the maiden I love,
The noon-day shall be night, my dear,
  The noon-day shall be night.

The hills shall fly, my little turtle dove,
  The roaring billows burn,
Before my heart shall suffer me to fail,
Or I a traitor turn, my dear,
  Or I a traitor turn.

  Free Bird
  Lynyrd Skynyrd

  If I leave here tomorrow
  Would you still remember me?
For I must be traveling on, now,
'Cause there's too many places I've got to see.
But, if I stayed here with you, girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you can not change.
And this bird you can not change.
And this bird you can not change.
  Lord knows, I can't change.

Bye, bye, baby its been a sweet love.
Though this feeling I can't change.
But please don't take it so badly,
'Cause Lord knows I'm to blame.
But, if I stayed here with you girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you'll never change.
And this bird you can not change.
And this bird you can not change
  Lord knows, I can't change.
  Lord help me, I can't chaye-ea-ea-ea-.
  Lord, I can't change.
Won't you fly... high...free... bird.. (yeah).

  Mockin Bird Hill

  CHORUS
Tra-la-la, tweedlee dee dee it gives me a thrill
To wake up in the morning to the mockin' bird's trill
  Tra-la-la, tweedlee dee dee
  There's peace and goodwill
You're welcome as the flowers on Mockin'bird Hill

When the sun in the mornin' peeps over the hill
And kisses the roses 'round my windowsill
Then my heart fills with gladness when I hear the trill
Of those birds in the treetops on Mockin'bird Hill

When it's late in the evenin' I climb up the hill
And survey all my kingdom while everything's still
Only me and the sky and an old whippoorwill
Singing songs in the twilight on Mockin'bird Hill

  Birds of a Feather
  The Raiders

I remember back a long time ago,
in the days of my childhood.
In the evening when the sun was sinking low,
  walking in the wildwood.
Skippin' and flippin' through the flowers,
  we'd go hand in hand.
Looking back on all the happy hours,
  anyone could understand,

  (chorus)
  you and me, babe.
Sure 'nuff got to be, babe,
  birds of a feather.
  We should be together
  like birds of a feather.
  Got to be together
  like birds of a feather.

You and I didn't have a lot of friends,
didn't have too much to say.
So they never would let us join in,
all the games they used to play.
Seems like it was only yesterday,
  down at Lincoln Junior High.
I remember what the kids used to say,
  as we'd go strolling by,

  (chorus)

  Time goes rolling by.
They say that you and I must go our separate ways.
But birds of a feather will always be together.

Your folks didn't want me hanging 'round.
Said that I was bad for you.
So we'd meet on the other side of town,
  down a long dark avenue.
But they can't keep the two of us apart,
as long as you really love me,
I got a feeling way down in my heart,
that's the way it's gonna be,

  (chorus)

  Rockin Robin
  Bobby Day

He rocks in the tree-top all a day long
Hoppin' and a-boppin' and a-singin' the song
All the little birds on J-Bird St.
Love to hear the robin goin' tweet tweet tweet
  [Chorus]

  Rockin' robin (tweet tweet tweet)
  Rockin' robin (tweet tweet tweet)
Oh rockin' robin well you really gonna rock tonight

  Every little swallow, every chickadee
Every little bird in the tall oak tree
The wise old owl, the big black crow
Flapping them wings sayin' go bird go
  [Chorus]

A wordy little raven at the bird's first dance
Taught him how to do the bop and it was grand
He started goin' steady and bless my soul
He out popped the buzzard and the oriole

He rocks in the tree-top all a day long
Hoppin' and a-boppin' and a-singin' the song
All the little birds on J-Bird St.
Love to hear the robin goin' tweet tweet tweet
  [Chorus]
